AdWords $5 and $10 minimum bids. What?
By Shalom | July 4, 2007
In my last post I mentioned that a poor quality score can earn you a $5 or $10 minimum bid to be active in search. I wanted to add a note about this. There are a few ways you can get this $5 or $10 cost per click penalty
- Poor quality score
- Trademark / Editorial Review Issues
- Poor landing page – known as landing page penalty
- Google made a mistake (No Joke)
One of my clients accounts recently got hit with a bunch of $10 minimum bid limits to be active in search. I knew that the the landing pages were fine and CTR was abouve 4%, and there were no editorial issues; so why? Google’s system simply made an error. It happens. Even the big G is not perfect (as most of us well know). Once I saw this I emailed my connection at Google and received a call the next day. The error was corrected and the campaign went back to normal. But it proves once again the need for professional management. SEM firms that manage large accounts get treated differently by Google, Yahoo, and MSN because they handle larger spends. Its a big advantage to have, and sometimes essential.
